Simple and easy way to decipher D-9 (Navamsha Chart)

There has been an overwhelming response for my article ‘Timing of Marriage’ and I have been flooded with queries regarding timing of marriage, details of spouse, subsequent marital happiness and progeny.
 
Instead of directing the query to me, you yourselves can get answers in simple steps by decoding D-9, Navamsha Chart without getting into the hassles of full delineation of all charts. However I must caution you that the information obtained from D-9 has to be further sifted if you desire accurate answers.
 
Navamsha, as you are aware is the 1/9th portion / Amsha of a sign which is of 30°. Therfore each Navamsha is equal to 3°20′. D-9 chart is most important in predictive Astrology. It is a complementary chart to the natal / birth chart wherein planetary strength is assessed. This chart indicates all about marriage, spouse, partners and skills of the native. In Vedic Astrology, D-9 Chart is said to be essential to consult for accurate predictions.
 
A planet in same sign in both Rashi and Navamsha chart is said to be ‘Vargottama’ and gives excellent results during its Dasha/Bhukti/ Antara periods and also in Transit. Planets become Vargottama in following cases:
  • Movable signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn) and in first Navamsha (0°- 3°20′)
  • Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius) and in 5th Navamsha (13°20′ – 16°40′)
  • Dual signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces) and in last Navamsha (26°40 -30°)
Timing of Marriage
  • Navamsha Lagna Lord in Kendra – early marriage
  • Navamsha Lagna Lord in Trikona –slight delay but will get married in time.
  • Navamsha Lagna Lord in Dusthana, spoilt by malefics like Saturn, Mars, Sun, Rahu and Ketu – Marriage beyond 30 years.
  • Navamsha Lagna Lord is extremely spoilt – Denial of marriage.
  • Navamsha Lagna Lord in 7th House, 7th Lord in 12th House – marriage in 23rd or 26th years of age.
  • 8th House of Rashi chart is 7th House of Navamsha, Venus in Navamsha Lagna, marriage in 25th or 33rd years of age.
  • If Venus in seventh House or the Seventh Lord or the Lagna Lord of Navamsha is all afflicted then one can say that it amounts to no marriage. It would rather be better if such a person’s does not marry.
 
Nature of Spouse
  • The native will get beautiful, cultured, intelligent wife and will be prosperous and wealthy in his life if Navamsha Lagna Lord is
    • Exalted, in Moola Trikona or in Own house.
    • In other Vargas posited in Kendra / Trikona
    • Do not have any aspect / association with malefics.
  • If Navamsha Lagna Lord is in Dusthana, debilitatated and has aspects of malefics, the native will get mediocre / bad natured wife.
Married Life
If in Navamsha chart
  • 7th House and 7th Lord are aspected by benefics or Venus is in good House, the married life will be smooth and happy.
  • If 7th Lord is Sun or Mars the husband and wife will be mutually honest and trustworthy.
  • If Sun, Mercury is posited in 7th House, there will be extra marital affairs.
  • If Venus is 7th Lord and is exalted or posited in Lagna or 7th House, the native will have associations with many women.
Progeny
If in Navamsha chart
  • 5th House has benefics, 5th Lord is in associated with benefics, the native will have good progeny
  • 5th Lord of Rashi chart is posited in Kendra /Trikona of Navamsha chart, the native will have good progeny.
  • 5th House and 5th Lord are spoilt by malefics, the native will not have happiness from his children

    Sir, Thank you for helping to understand D-9 charts better. Would you please clarify if Navamsa Lagna Lord’s position is to be seen in the Rashi Chart or Navamsa Chart or both?

      All positions are to be seen in D-9 only except where I have mentioned about other Vargas.

    Sir,
    In married life section you mentioned that if Venus being 7th lord exalted then the native will have many associations with women ….which is not good. My question is when we say any planet is exalted (at its highest Quality) shouldn’t it give positive results?

      Aren’t you contradicting yourself?

      Let me explain.

      Venus is the natural Karaka for Sex drive (Libido).If he becomes 7th Lord and is exalted he will give abundant libido. More libido, more adventurous the man becomes. Here the Venus is bestowing his natural power. Why blame the planet.

      That is the reason the God has given you the freewill.

      It is up to you as to how you use your extra strength.

      What is bad for you may not be so for someone else.This is the fact of life.

    Sir, many thanks for such useful articles. I had a query regarding your article on navamsa. You mentioned-if Venus is The Lord of the 7th house and placed in its own house in navamsa he may have association with many women.
    Is this applicable to women also ? While Jupiter is the karaka for women, and Venus signifies beauty and comforts for men.. What does Venus signify in a woman’s chart in that placement ?

    Madam, If you see my reply (above) to Sushanta, you would have understood. Venus here signifies ‘Sexual drive’. Both men and women have this. If this is boosted there are chances that both men and women will go beyond accepted norms / limits of society.

    Excellent article and very lucidly written. Thank you very much.

    I however find the progeny predictions not working for me. I have Venus in the 5th house in D-9, no other planets with it, but getting 4th aspect of Mars and 10th aspect of Saturn, my 5th Lord Sun is with Jupiter in 3rd house and aspected by Mercury, the 5th Lord in my Rashi chart is Venus and he is in Trikona in D-9. However, my 20 year old son dropped out of college, left home at 19 and went and married a Muslim girl and claims he is a Muslim now. Being born a brahmin, he is not following our dharma.

    I can’t see this fitting well with the prediction. Would there be other issues in my/his chart that is overwhelming? Or, I should still maintain hope based on the prediction and accept that this could be a passing phase and he will revert and still turn out to be a good son. Thank you.

      I understand your situation and my sympathies are with you. D-9 is only an indicator and if you want detailed info, we have to thoroughly analyse the complete chart.

    My Asc is Leo
    Lord of the 7th House in Lagna Chart is Saturn and is placed 6th House in Aquarius Sign

    In my D9 Chart,
    Navamsa Lagna Lord Mars is in 12th House in Libra Sign and
    Lord of 7th House Venus is in 10th House in Leo Sign

    First of all, thank you very much for the article. I have a few queries and it would be very kind of you if you could clarify.

    1. You said that Venus is the natural Karaka for Sex drive. What can be inferred from Venus being the lord of 7th house in Navamsa and its position in my case? You also said Venus in good house would give smooth and happy married life. Is 10th House with Leo good for Venus?

    2. Can anything be concluded from the relation between the Lagna Lord and Navamsa Lagna Lord? In my case they are Sun and Mars respectively.

      7th Lord of D-1 going to a Dusthana and Navamsha Lagna Lord also going to a Dusthana in D-9 is not a good sign for happy married life.

      Venus going to 10th House is OK, but remember Sun and Venus are not friends.

      There is no significance of relation between D-1 and D-9 Lords.

    if in D1 Chart 7th house lord get exalted in Navama in some another house ,will it help to make married life better(Kind of neechbang yog)?Is rahu ketu play any role in D9 chart ? I know in birth chart if they sit with malefic in 7 house they can destroy the married life . what about the D9 chart will it behave in similar way of calculation.

      If 7th Lord is exalted, it is good. Where is this ‘Neechabanga’?
      You seem to be knowing a lot about Rahu/Ketu. D-9 is to be analysed like any other chart.
