Please read the article on Guru Poornima. As the name suggests it is a day for expressing our gratitude to our Gurus. There is nothing better than falling at their feet and seeking their blessings.
In any punya kala, we can recite mantras / sthothras / sookthas, do poojas / aartis/ and we can even do homas for invoking blessings of the God. It is individual’s choice and I cannot quantify the extent of one’s actions.
